Reculier Pour Mieux Sauter

A mixed-genre non-fiction work by poet/artist Anne-Marie Levine, Reculer pour Mieux Sauter traces and reconstructs the author’s complex family history through an assemblage of materials.
Combining newspaper clippings, letters, quotations, photographs as well original texts and poem, the book is essentially a memory piece, proposing a narrative where history, personal facts and family stories intersect.
The design approach kept true to the scrapbook concept and look with a loose arrangement of materials, while relying on text treatment to give emphasis to their different “voices”, according to source and type. This differentiation creates logical threads that can be easily followed throughout the book, as the reader pieces together individual stories unfolding alongside historical events through the scraps of information and new writing collected.
